LONG TIME FRIENDS

November 5, 1956, I met two student nurses in Richmond, Virginia. One was Marj Noble and the other was Pat Peacock. This weekend, Pat and I (now married) visited Marj and Bill Craig (also now married) in their home in LaFayette, Georgia. Our visit was celebrating our 60 years of friendship! (Actually, it was a spur of the moment decision to visit the Craigs before we leave for Spain and Maine).

These two attractive nurses were true Georgia Peaches, although Marj Noble grew up in Cullman, Alabama. Pat was a real GP. Marj and Pat were classmates and good friends at Saint Joseph’s Nursing School in Atlanta, GA.
The weekend after I’d met Marj, she, a Bowdoin friend, and I drove from Richmond, Virginia to Brunswick, Maine in my friend’s old Hudson car to see a Bowdoin football game. I got to know Marj that weekend trip and when she returned to Richmond, she convinced her friend, Pat, to give me another chance and go on a second date. The rest is history!

Marj and Bill have been true friends. They are bright, well informed, and we always learn things when we are together—and enjoy each other’s company.

Bill has done a variety of things as a businessman, including a top position with a health-care company that owned nursing homes throughout the USA. He has served on hospital boards and is also an excellent golfer! He also has served in various positions in City Government at LaFayette, Georgia.

Marj worked as an RN in various positions for her career and has kept Pat informed about their classmates from St. Joseph. Marj is a real people-person who has always been a live-wire with a great personality.

We’re hoping Marj and Bill will visit us again this summer in Maine.

Hank,

What a fantastic blog! I really appreciated the kind and insightful about my grandparents. They really are pretty great people! I hope that you're well and I look forward to spending some time exploring your adventures via the blog. Have a fantastic time in Spain - I'm sure that y'all will enjoy a few tapas and some flamenco.

Regards,
Robb Smedema
